Many people are asking why we need English? Why do we even know it? Even students in the primary grades starting to English lessons are given by such issues. First, let's answer the question ourselves why we do want to learn this so annoying, foreign language? And so, I will try to answer you - the person who is always striving for perfection, well, or simply trying to stand up well. All people want to live well? Is not it? Everyone wants to have a good career, or just a good, decent wages. In - the first one must know his profession, and secondly it is necessary to know English. This is in order not to miss their chance as a good worker, to go abroad, because the work of a foreign company will bring you a good capital, new acquaintances. The fact that the English language is international and people all over the world prefer to learn exactly its. You can find Chinese, Kazakh, Mexicans who speak English. Learn English as a rule we start from the steps of the school. Do you remember your first English lesson? How to start your way in the world of the unknown? No doubt, it was certainly difficult, a new alphabet, a new grammar in middle school seemed impossible to remember all those times, all mixed up in my head. And a pair of tired of it all, and I'm sure that some students with the time and did not become interested in learning English. But nobody said it would be easy, as the Russian proverb, "without effort - not take out the fish from the pond" Each language has its own characteristics, the study of any language we encounter difficulties, since any modern language it is - it is a complex definition, which includes vocabulary, syntax and semantics. In our case it is English. As we know the English language has 4 basic skills. They are listening, speaking, reading and writing. And each plays an important role in drawing up the study of the English language, and relate to each other very closely. But in this article I want to talk specifically about spiking, about its features, and problems faced by students. And as well as the solution of these I have chosen games. Therefore, the topic of my article called “The development of pupils’ speaking skills through the game activity” Language is a tool which is used to communicate with other. One of the ways is speaking. Speaking here means individual’s ability in expressing the idea. Hadfield says that speaking is a kind of bridge for learners between classroom and the world outside. [3, 23]. It is vehicle par excellence of social solidarity, of social ranking, of professional advancement and business. It is also a medium through which much language is learnt…. Speaking is an act to express idea, feelings, and thought orally. It is also called oral communication. Speaking is an act that is done naturally by people in their life. Sometimes they share their problem to someone they believe in. They have a freedom to express what they want to say. Speaking is one of four basic skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) that have to be mastered in learning English. Every senior high school student has to master speaking skill. Besides, speaking skill is very important to be mastered because it can help us to communicate with others well. Therefore, the speaking skill is totally required. Speaking skill is hard to be mastered by the students because of the lack of teachers' ability to improve their students' speaking ability. Besides that, many teachers use local language. Some teachers also teach speaking only by reading some dialogues and asking their students to read and make some dialogues. Those methods can make the students not accustomed to use English actively and assume that learning English is not interesting. In fact, most of students of Senior High School still have difficulties in Speaking. It caused by some factors. Those are: 1. Most of students are too shy and afraid to take apart in the conversation. In the other word, the students are having problem with their confidence. 2. Most of students are still clumsy in speaking, they just speak when the teacher ask them. 3. The students are not enthusiastic and not courage enough involves in the speaking learning process, therefore, they need an attractive technique to stimulate them to speak English. [1, 24]. It could be understood that most of the students were still difficult to achieve the minimal mastery level for English Subject. Because of these problems, we have to find an effective method in teaching and improving the students speaking skill. We choose the game activities techniques to solve the student’s problem in speaking. Because it gives students an opportunity to practice communicating in different social contexts and in different social roles, so it can improve students’ oral performance. In addition, it also allows students to be creative and to put themselves in another person’s place for a while. Game activities are also a technique that make students work in pairs, support one another and to make the class more interesting and to reduce students’ boredom. [2, 12]. Using games is a good way to improve students' various skills, as Wright, Betteridge and Buckby say, "Games can be found to give practice in all the skills, in all the stages of the teaching and learning and for many types of communication".[4, 23]. In playing language games, students have to know and well understand the rules of the games, and should be clear about what has been, is being and will be done or said, and what is more important, they have to take some actions - doing or saying something, to compete in the games. In so doing, they can practice their skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing comprehensively, and especially they get more practice in listening and speaking, which are poor in the traditional teaching method. Game playing is effective in developing students communicative ability in that it is a dynamic process of communication in which students as thinking beings, emotional beings and communicators instead of knowledge receptacles, try to get their ideas, concepts, thoughts, emotions and feelings expressed, based on their own life experiences. Games can increase motivation to learn the language as students, especially the weaker ones, feel a real sense of achievement when they manipulate a game. And games can act as a testing mechanism through journal of language teaching and research, which they will expose areas of weakness and the need for remedial work. Language learning should be enjoyable. Games help make it so. There are many advantages of using games in the classrooms. Games are welcome break from the usual routine of the language class, they are motivating and challenging, games provide language practice in the various skills - speaking, writing, listening and reading…With a view to creating such a learning atmosphere, using language games, which have long been advocated for assisting language learning, in speaking classes seems to be a good choice for the following reasons: · Games add interest to what students might not find very interesting. Language learning is hard work…Effort is required at every moment and must be maintained over a long period of time. Games help and encourage many students to sustain their interest and work. Sustaining interest can mean sustaining effort. After all, learning language involves long term effort. · The variety and intensity that games offer may lower anxiety and encourage shyer students to take part in speaking classes positively, especially when games are played in small groups. · Games also help the teachers to create contexts in which the language is meaningful and useful. The students want to take part and in order to do so they must understand what others are saying and they must speak in order to express their own point of view or give information. From the above analysis, a conclusion can be drawn that teaching and learning English by means of language games is effective and efficient in improving students’ speaking skills. While in the traditional method of teaching English, students sit still listening to teachers talking about English language and try their best to remember English words and grammatical rules by rote memory, in the communicative language teaching approach they are actively involved in playing games which in turn can arouse and maintain their interest in learning, promote their motivation of study, and at the same time get lots of opportunities to have their basic skills of listening and speaking practiced. Teaching speaking is a very important part of second language learning. The ability to communicate in a second language clearly and efficiently contributes to the success of the learner in school and success later in every phase of life. Therefore, it is essential that language teachers’ pay great attention to teaching speaking. Rather than leading students to pure memorization, providing a rich environment where meaningful communication takes place is desired. With this aim, various speaking activities such as those listed above can contribute a great deal to students in developing basic interactive skills necessary for life. These activities make students more active in the learning process and at the same time make their learning more meaningful and fun for them. In a word, using games in English teaching very well represents the theme of the communicative language teaching approach - “Communicating to learn” and “learning to communicate”.
